Wearing Instructions

Initially, your orthotics may feel uncomfortable when worn for the first time. With time this will change. Your orthotics will feel more comfortable and you will become accustomed to the support they provide.

Follow these instructions carefully!

Realizing that your orthotics are designed to reposition your feet, try to wear them for only about 1 hour the first time. The second time you wear them, increase time to 2 hours. Follow this regimen until you are able to wear them comfortably all day.

If your orthotics are extremely uncomfortable when wearing them before the time period you are aiming for is due, stop wearing them. Some individuals adjust more quickly than others.

Your body may experience change and improved alignment with your new orthotics. These “changes” may be in the form of slight aches, affecting the knees, legs or lower back. This is evidence that your body is being re-aligned and your posture is changing. These changes should only be initially and short-term.

Your choice in footwear may also affect the way your orthotics fit and perform. Shoes with a shallower heel seat or lower heel counter, may cause you to experience “heel slippage.” Optimal footwear would have a deeper heal seat and higher heel counter. Removable inner liners are excellent as this facilitates more room in the shoe once removed.

These instructions are to be used as an outline to the wearing of your new orthotics. All individuals are different and their requirements unique. Always follow your practitioner’s instructions, and follow-up if you have any questions or concerns.

Sports and Active Wear

For sports or active use, always remove all arch supports, inserts, or pads before inserting your orthotics. This is important as these items will alter the prescription your doctor has ordered.

Sports orthotics also require a break-in period. They should be worn for about 2 hours a day for 2 to 3 days with regular walking. If comfortable, they may be used in your particular sports activity. It is advised when engaged in your sport, you participate in the same fashion. Use them for only part of the activity the first time, and increase each time thereafter.

The break-in time varies between the individuals, their activities, and intensities. Any questions or concerns should be directed to your practitioner regarding your situation.
